We were pleased that a recent article by the James Beard Award-winning online magazine, Punch, has featured Elie Wine Company as one of the top five consequential wine stores in the nation for our selection and our philosophy. You can read the full article here: The Retailers Changing How We Buy Wine
Punch Magazine is a James Beard Award-winning online magazine focused on narrative journalism—both written and visual—about wine, spirits, beer and cocktails. Their goal is to capture the ethos that’s driving drinks forward: the connection of beverage to tradition and place, the passion to innovate and yes—fun.
A few excerpts:
“…it’s hard to argue that there’s been a better time than the present to buy wine in the States. To say that the internet has quickly changed the way many obtain wine is an understatement; increasingly, doorsteps are the new wine shops. And yet a growing number of independent wine stores continue to drill deeper, offering a more nuanced, personal touch.
When Elie Boudt opened his Elie Wine Company outside Detroit 26 years ago, the shop was purely French-focused. Over time, he’s become a go-to for Burgundy, particularly for his depth of vintage bottles, bought when released and aged on premise—a rarity. But over the years he’s also expanded his interests to include wines from throughout France and Spain, many of which are directly imported for the store.”
While we are quite proud of this focus on our selection and philosophy, the truth is we couldn’t do it without you, our customers. It is you that allow us to forgo the standard wine store model of varietal wines along with a handful of bottles each covering all of the major wine-producing countries. Only with your faith in our collection can we take a much deeper dive and be able to offer wines that truly speak of place from producers who embrace the role of climate, soil, and culture to create singular expressions.
So cheers to all of us enthusiasts. It’s a great time to be a wine lover!
