Wine Offerings: Post

Right Bank Petit Bordeaux Closeout

It’s official, our new location will be open for business on May 1! In the meantime, we’re still on Main Street in Royal Oak and uncovering big deals on closeout wines.

In this round of closeout sales, we’re offering no less than nine different producers of Bordeaux, spanning four vintages, with prices ranging from $9 to $35. We’ll have wines for everyday drinking, wines for medium-term cellaring, and everything in-between. Some of these bottles are going for close to 50% off of the regular price.

All of them are from the “Right Bank” of the Gironde Estuary. These are the Libournais appellations that include Pomerol, Saint-Émilion, and the Saint-Émilion satellites. All are typically blended wines with the three main grape varieties being Merlot (usually 60% or higher of the blend), and then Cabernet Franc for depth of color and a bit of structure, with the possibility of a minute amount of Cabernet Sauvignon to finish.

The Merlot grape reaches its height of expression and complexity in the concentrated clay soils of the Right Bank. These wines will sometimes have a noticeable mineral tinge, but they will be mostly supple and round, showing a powerful but elegant richness that is generally less tannic and more fruit driven in flavor than their Cabernet Sauvignon based Left Bank cousins.

We’ll be pouring samples of Right Bank Bordeaux all day Saturday. Stop by, have a taste, and leave with a bottle or twelve. We’ll mix and match them to your preference.
